Is this the future of learning?
Sophia Overview from Sophia on Vimeo.
Sophia enables innovation by connecting learners, teachers, experts and parents. They provide an academic community where everyone has access to learning that surrounds and supports the traditional classroom. They encourage variety and creativity in teaching so that everyone can learn in a way that makes sense to them.
Sophia is a social teaching and learning platform that taps the teacher in all of us and enhances the learning process by providing access to a wealth of knowledge, help, instruction, standards-aligned content, and expertise available to learners everywhere.
Sophia wants to harness technology for the betterment of the educational system as a whole. They believe we can all help others learn. Sophia’s mission is to be a catalyst in this educational movement.
Since Sophia is in beta, it's difficult to see how advanced it will become. In it's current form, it is nothing more than a supplemental tool -- by no means the future of education.
ReplyDeleteSince research indicates that adding objectives in a way students can understand them is crucial to learning, I like this feature, along with graphics and videos (although some videos are simple and may bore students).
There appears to be good potential for Sophia. however, I'd say, right now, the jury is still out on what role it will play.
While I don't know that Sophia specifically is the future, I do see something like this as the next generation of textbooks.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's social. But I agree that's it's hardly the Future of Learning. Perhaps that's their title? I see traditional pedagogy wrapped in a social context. There doesn't seem to be much interaction, hands-on, etc. from learners thus it's very transmission of info focused which is definitely not 21st century IMHO! Maybe good for an instructional resource in an online class at best?
ReplyDeleteNice writing, you are doing great effort, your way of writing is unique, thanks for sharing such nice work. Keep more post..
