I have been teaching for eight years in grades that require standardized testing and have never heard of a parent “opting out” of the test. While working with special education students, I wondered to myself, how many of my parents would opt out of the test if given the opportunity. As an educator, one of my many jobs has been to calm the nerves of students as we begin to prepare for the TEST. I am preparing students who are classified with IEPs, who as a district we acknowledge they have learning disabilities and require help and yet that same help we are unable to give on standardized tests. How is it far to ask a student who is not reading on grade level to read a test that is on grade level and answer questions that pertain to that text? It just doesn’t seem fair? Thank you for posting this letter, advocating for your children/students should be one of the perks of a teacher or parent!Tricianoreply@blogger.com
