It is so surprising to me that many educators are resistant to wikis and collaboration. They have been a core part of high performing teams and corporations. People are expected to collaborate, comment, and rethink their ideas all the time in business. How do we expect to prepare our children for their future careers if we can't model collaboration ourselves?

PS. I LOVED your keynote at TSETC this morning. Very inspiring and thought provoking!Debnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8318734518772387227.post-39621802876368380532010-10-01T09:14:10.001-04:002010-10-01T09:14:10.001-04:00Hey, Lisa...
Great post as usual!
You are so rig...Hey, Lisa...

Great post as usual!

You are so right...fear and trepidation often get in the way of innovation. What some people miss is that they think it should be "business as usual" with a new tool. What you have offered is that the new tool allows for a paradigm shift in the way we do business. THAT's what people miss and often overlook. We don't NEED the previously essential meetings if we can collaborate virtually. We don't need mass emails if information is centally located.

What also is important is if the wiki is where information can be found, it must be the ONLY place to find it. It's kind of like the teacher who can't figure out why kids won't look on Blackboard, Moodle, Ning, etc, when they are giving kids paper handouts on the same stuff.
As always, it's about shifting thought, and then applying the tools.

Again, great post...you've anticipated a ton of arguments!

PS thanks for the article plug! : )jorechhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09976226488938730607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8318734518772387227.post-66868941955181103932010-09-30T23:09:51.315-04:002010-09-30T23:09:51.315-04:00@Tanisha Rufus, I'd recommend reading my other...@Tanisha Rufus, I'd recommend reading my other post which is linked to from this article "8 Ways To Use A School Wiki to Increase Communication, Collaboration, and Enrich Instruction." That will have some good ideas to get you started. I always recommend adults begin using the tool so they can be in touch with smart ways they might use it with their students.

For suggestions on using wikis with students read this post by Jon Orech Turbo-Charged Wikis: Technology Embraces Cooperative Learning http://www.academiccommons.org/commons/essay/turbo-charged-wikis-technology-embraces-cooperative-learning.Lisa Nielsenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07759123507185453030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8318734518772387227.post-72689283585132668872010-09-30T23:04:59.121-04:002010-09-30T23:04:59.121-04:00Do you know of more ways to implement wikis in the...Do you know of more ways to implement wikis in the classroom?
