12 Most Convincing Reasons to Opt Your Child Out of Standardized Testing

More and more parents are standing up and taking back control of their child's learning. One way they are doing this is by opting out of standardized tests which robs children of meaningful learning time and opportunities.  If you've thought about opting your child out of tests or if you're trying to convince others that this is a valid decision, this post will help you make a case with 12 compelling reasons to take action.

12 Most Unconventional Reasons to Opt Your Child Out of Standardized Testing

If you're ready to find others who want to opt out, you can join others interested in opting out in your state in two ways:
1) Type in the search: Opt out of State Standardized Tests — Your State i.e. Opt Out of State Standardized Tests – Ohio

  1. Here in Maryland, if I opt my kids out of the tests, the school takes a Zero for my kids' scores, meaning it unfairly pulls DOWN the test scores. I feel torn, stuck between a rock and a hard place: I don't want my kids going through this misery, but I also don't want to unfairly penalize my school or my kids' teachers.

Gosh, I miss homeschooling, but after 10 years without a paycheck, we're stuck with this at least for the time being. :-( But thank you for giving me more ammunition as I continue to make my own concerns about this process public and share it with other parents. :-)

  2. It will take strong parents to do what is not only right for their children, but also right for the school. It takes 6% of parents to invalidate test scores by opting out. If more and more parents come together to do that we will see a change. Currently Texas parents are doing great work in this area.

Right now the government is threatening and bullying parents and schools. The ACLU is aware of this and has now taken this on. Progress!

Most parents, teachers, administrators, and students know that what we are doing is horribly wrong. We can't continue to be strong armed into doing what we know is bad for children. Yes. It will take some gutsy parents and hopefully educators to stand up for what is right for kids even against the threats.

If you do contact your local media to amplify the story and, of course, I'd be happy to share it here as well.

I also urge parents in each state to unite. I have formed a Facebook group for every state. Here is the one for Maryland https://www.facebook.com/groups/OptOutMaryland/
